Privacy

The Ask buttons on this website take you to the contact form on the West Coast Baseball Collective's register page. It asks for four things:

• the reason you're getting in touch, chosen from a short list
• your name
• your email address
• your message

It also has three optional fields: a phone number, a player's first name and a grad year. That's everything it asks you for.

When you press send, a form service called Formspree passes your message to a shared Collective staff inbox, and staff reply from there. Formspree is a company outside the club, so it handles your message on the way.

We use your message to answer you. We don't add you to a mailing list because you wrote to us, and we don't pass your message to anyone else.

Please send us only what we need to answer your question. If you're asking about a child, a first name and a grad year are all the form asks for. You don't need to tell us their birthday, their school or anything about their health for us to help. If you do send us something we don't need, we won't use it for anything else. To have something you sent removed, write to info@thewcbc.com.

Full registration doesn't happen on this website. The register buttons take you to the Collective's register page, which links to the club's own registration form. The club runs that form on Google Forms.

That matters, so we'll be plain about it. Once you're filling in that form, you're giving your answers to the club directly, and the club holds them in its own account. Anything you enter there about a young player, including their name, their age and the team they play for, is held by the club, not by this website. This website never sees it.

If you want to know what the club holds about you or your player, or you want it corrected or deleted, contact info@thewcbc.com.

This website publishes photographs of players, coaches and staff, and it publishes names. The alumni pages list former players by name along with the school they went on to. The coaches and staff pages name the people in those roles. The photographs come from the club.

If you or your child appear in a photograph here and you'd like it taken down, or if a name is wrong or you'd like it removed, contact info@thewcbc.com and we'll take care of it. You don't have to give a reason.

Nothing, for visitors. Reading either website doesn't save anything in your browser or set cookies, and the visit counting works without putting anything on your device. The one exception is a staff-only sign-in page on the Collective website. It isn't linked from anywhere and isn't meant for visitors. It asks for a work email so we can send a sign-in link. Opening that link sets one cookie, called wedit_session, which keeps staff signed in for 12 hours and is cleared when they sign out.

One more case: if you tap play on an IMG Spring Training video, the video player is YouTube's, and it may store its own settings on your device.

One page on this site, IMG Spring Training, has YouTube videos. They sit behind a cover image, and nothing from YouTube loads until you tap play. When you do, YouTube receives your device's internet address and some basic browser information. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced address, which is YouTube's own setting for collecting less. What YouTube does inside its own player is theirs and not ours, and they explain it at policies.google.com/privacy. This is the only page on either of our websites where anything from another company can load.

Everything else on these pages, including the lettering, comes from our own servers. Links to GameChanger, Instagram, X, TikTok, Prep Baseball Report and the BC Premier Baseball League take you off this website. Once you follow one of those links you're on that company's site and their own privacy terms apply. Nothing from them loads while you're here.

These websites are hosted by Vercel. Like every web host, their servers keep a basic record of requests, which includes the internet address a request came from, the page asked for and the time. We use this only to keep the sites running and to fix problems. We keep this for two years from your last activity here, and then it's deleted.

The visit counting runs on Vercel too. Each time a page loads it records which page you opened and when, the sort of device and browser you were using, the page you came from, and roughly where you are, down to the town. All of that goes into a total. To tell one visit from another without using cookies, Vercel works out a code from the request itself and throws it away after a day. None of it is tied to your name, none of it is joined up with the hosting record above, and none of it follows you once you leave these websites. Privacy law in British Columbia and Canada gives you the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it, and to ask us to delete it. Write to info@thewcbc.com and we'll get back to you. If there's something the law doesn't let us delete, we'll tell you what it is and why.

If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia at oipc.bc.ca.

If we ever add something new, for example a tool that counts visitors, we'll update this page before we switch it on and change the date at the top. If the change is a significant one we'll say so on the website rather than hoping you notice.
