Abbotsford Cardinals

Development

Developing the Whole Athlete

Games take up a few months. The rest of the year is focused on development, practice, testing, one-on-one meetings and a plan built for each player, across all four teams. Here's the whole of it, in order, starting with fall ball.

The Cardinals year

The Year has four parts, and our players are at the center of it

  1. Fall ball

You Play, and Everyone Is Watching

Four teams, 16 or 17 games each, and the Fall World Series to close.

When Early September to late October
    Where Delair and Townline
Families Two practices a week, plus games through the fall
  2. Exit interviews & roster placement

You Hear Exactly Where You Stand

Every player sits down one on one. There are no games in this stretch.

How placement works is explained in the meeting itself.

    When Late October into November
Where Face to face at the club
Families One meeting, Cardinal Culture Day, then screens and testing
  3. Off season

You Get Better in the Dark Months

Drills, position work, lifting and conditioning. No games until spring.

    When Right through the winter
Where Delair, Townline, The Hangar and HitHouse
Families Six days a week on the calendar, and plenty of reps
  4. Regular season

You Are on a Field Most Weekends

At least 40 league games, and four against every other club in it.

How often a team practices in season comes from its coach.

When Late March to late July
    Where Delair, Townline and away
Families About three games a week, and weekend doubleheaders are normal

Then it starts again at fall ball.

Player development at the Cardinals is led by Kevin Nicholson.

This is the shape of the year as of 30 July 2026. Dates move, so check with your coach.
